Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade
January 15 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm
The 39th Annual MLK Day Parade is scheduled for 11 a.m., Monday, January 15, 2018. The parade begins at MLK Boulevard and John Hope Franklin Boulevard, flowing down historic Greenwood Avenue to Archer and Elgin Street. Parade registration deadline is Friday, December 15, 2017 with early bird discounts through October 31. Parade registration, youth contests and other events are posted on the mlktulsa.com website.
The celebration theme: MLK 2018: “50 Years Later the Dream Lives,” emphasizes the MLK Commemoration Society’s commitment to promote unity and inclusion throughout the year. The theme recognizes how Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma have moved forward since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr in 1968.
The MLK Society will facilitate a year of “edutainment” and empowerment designed to engage youth, students, families, faith communities, marketplace leaders and others in remembering Dr. King and others in the Civil Rights movement who dedicated their lives to create a more peaceful world.
In addition to the 2018 MLK Day Parade, the MLK Society will host a broad spectrum of events and initiatives in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination (April 4, 1968). The MLK Society’s intergenerational, interactive engagement with all communities in the Tulsa area will help children, youth and millennials prepare to create a more just, humane and peaceful world using Dr. King’s nonviolent philosophy and methodologies.
